In October, while people in the North Vietnam are absorbedly “hunting” paddy crops, flowers, people in the South Vietnam travel to An Giang province to shoot the most beautiful photos of one of the most spectacular festivals in Vietnam. The bull racing festival for a long time has been a tourism product very attractive to visitors and photographers nationwide.

The race has its roots in the local Khmer community’s centuries-old agriculture, derived from bull racing movement in each phum (sub-hamlet), soc (hamlet) to find out the strongest pair of bulls to serve agricultural production. It is excited that bull racing is only held at Bay Nui (Seven Mountains) region where paddy fields have firm sandy ground and not subsided so that bulls can run quickly. The bull racing rule is rather strange in comparison with other races because each race features two pairs of bulls competing directly with each other to select one pair of bulls for the next round.

Under the control of experienced bull jockeys, bulls run as quickly as they can on the watery field tracks with animated shouts of encouragement of spectators. The “hô” round is the point of time that bull jockeys perform their skillful capacity to control their bull to enter into the next round, while the ““thả” round is the point of time that is decisive to success or failure and bulls show their strength by spectacular competition. At the end of the round, regardless of success or failure, bull jockeys are very happy to have devoted attractive and spectacular moments to spectators.

This is possibly a reason to explain why the bull racing festival has attracted a lot of photographers. In spite of rushing on watery and dirty fields or coping with big and strong bulls that may butt them at any time, they are still willing to engage in the festival to record the most beautiful moments of the festival.

An Giang province also has another “picturesque” destination for photographers to demonstrate their creative skills, that is Tra Su cajuput forest in the flooding season. Boating on “waterways” covered by green duckweed, you will discover the lively world of rare birds, learn about how they make their nests and search for food excitingly. In the airy and cool place with cajuput fragrant flowers, nothing is more wonderful than having lunch with specialities in the flooding season: sour soup with Linh fish and cork flowers, broiled snakehead fish, broiled field-mice, raw chicken with spicy vegetables…If you are interested in recording unique architectural works and charming rivery landscapes, well-off floating fish-cage villages, brocade handicraft village, mosques, Ba Chua Xu Temple, Tay An ancient pagoda..will be a source of inspiration for you.

The bull racing festival this year will be held at Tinh Bien district on October 4th with the participation of the most seasoned and strongest pairs of bulls from An Giang province and other provinces. On this occasion, Vietravel Long Xuyen has offered unique tour – Spectating bull racing festival in combination with experiencing flooding season in the southwestern region designed for a group of 10 visitors up, and suitable for visitors who are interested in sightseeing in combination of photographing.
