Record arrivals for Singapore in April
SINGAPORE Tourism Board (STB) achieved its fifth consecutive month of record visitor arrivals, with a growth of 20.4 per cent to reach 938,000 in April, the highest ever tally for the month.
Year-on-year growth was seen in all top 15 source markets, except the UK which dipped one per cent. Thailand (57.5 per cent), Malaysia (50.8 per cent) and India (30.8 per cent) registered the highest growth.
Visitor days increased 15.5 per cent to 3.7 million days, compared to the same time last year, further reiterating travel agents' observation that new attractions at the two integrated resorts have encouraged travellers to spend more time in Singapore.
Inbound operator Singapore Alive, for instance, has seen good interest in its new five-day/four-night packages that give visitors two more days of activities in Singapore.
Hotels saw better performance in April too, with average occupancy rate (AOR) rising 15 percentage points to 85 per cent and average room rate (ARR) up 12.2 per cent to reach S$211 (US$149).
AOR of economy-tiered hotels registered the largest growth of 16.7 percentage points to reach 84 per cent, and ARR of mid-tier hotels led with a growth of 20.7 per cent to reach S$171.
