New entertainment and hotel destination proposed for Singapore

The project will be designed by internationally acclaimed Herzog & de Meuron, which counts high-profile projects such as Beijing's 'Bird's Nest' National Stadium and the Tate Modern in London among its work.

In a tender to the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore, Gaw Capital Partners revealed plans to revitalise three historically significant buildings  Capitol Theatre, Capitol Building and Stamford House  with cutting-edge entertainment uses.

There will also be a five-star hotel, Covent Garden-style lanes of restaurants and nightspots and a designer-oriented shopping mall, linked by an underground pedestrian network with retail elements to City Hall MRT and the nearby Marina Centre.

"We are creatively integrating this hospitality, dining, entertainment and retail environment while injecting value-added elements that are not present in Singapore," said the company's chairman and managing principal, Goodwin Gaw.
