More Indonesian airlines to be spared from EU ban

Lion Air, Batavia Air and Indonesia AirAsia have met all the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) safety standards, especially Annex six, on airline operation. They also had renewed their Air Operator Certificates as requested by the new Indonesian Law on Air Transportation.

As such, Indonesia's civil aviation authority will ask the EU's Airline Safety Commission to review its ban on the airlines.

Ministry of Communication's director of airworthiness, Yurlis Hasibuan, said his office would make a presentation during a meeting with EU on June 19 in Brussels.

"We will do our best to get these airlines off the blacklist," Hasibuan said.

EU banned all 51 Indonesian airlines from landing in Europe in 2007 but released four airlines, including Garuda Indonesia and Mandala, in 2009.
