MICE event on schedule despite protests

SOME 620 visitors from almost 100 countries have registered to attend a trade fair in Bangkok next week, despite the ongoing political protests.

Delegates are expected to enter into business dealings with more than 600 exhibitors from 13 countries, totalling about 1,000 booths, at the Bangkok International Fashion Fair and Bangkok International Leather Fair (BIFF&BIL) from April 1 to 4 at the IMPACT Challenger Hall.

According to Srirat Rastapana, director general of the event organiser, Department of Export Promotion of Thailand, visitors hail from Japan, Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, India, Spain, Italy, Germany, Australia, Denmark, Brazil and the US.

Meanwhile, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) said yesterday that the government had approved the extension of the use of the Internal Security Act for a further seven days until March 30, but coverage had been reduced from eight to three provinces (TTG Asia e-Daily, March 11).

While the TAT continues to assure that tourism attractions, airports, shopping malls and MICE venues are operating as normal, it advises that roads around the Parliament House will be closed to traffic from March 23 to 25 during the two-day Thai Parliament meeting that started today.
