Malaysia must highlight attributes to attract high-yield market
MALAYSIA must stop promoting the destination as a cheap option and start pitching its unique selling points if it wants to attract high-yield tourists, said the Malaysian Association of Hotel Owners (MAHO).
These proposals were made to the performance management and delivery unit under the prime ministers department yesterday to support the Malaysian governments bid to transform the country into a high-income economy.
By 2015, the tourism industry is expected to contribute RM115 billion (US$35 billion) to the country's gross domestic product and create two million job opportunities.
Other proposals included tax breaks and short-term loans for hotels to conduct refurbishments, and the creation of more training centres to provide vocational training for operational staff, said MAHO president Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman.
The association also proposed that the Malaysia Truly Asia brand be further enhanced.
