Indonesia airports get on the radar of authorities
THE INDONESIAN government will invest 750 billion (US$83.3 million) on a new air traffic control system to manage flight control in western Indonesia, an area whose airports are managed by the Angkasa Pura II airport authority.
The new navigation equipment will replace the old air traffic control system at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, whose radar crashed for 30 minutes on Sunday (TTG Asia e-Daily, August 30). Ministry of Communications director general of civil aviation Herry Bhakti Gumay told the media the government would build the Jakarta Automated Air Traffic Services at the airport.
At the same time, the Ministry of State Enterprises is seeking private investors to develop and manage the 26-year-old Soekarno-Hatta Airport. The plan is to set up a Soekarno-Hatta management office, which will be a collaboration between the private sector and Angkasa Pura II.
