Chinese meetings industry primed for growth

According to CIBTM's Fourth China and Asia Meetings Industry Report 2010 presented last week, the volume of events organised in China increased to an average of 5.6 events per buyer from 3.7 last year, with the mean duration for events in China being 5.5 days, compared to 4.4 days last year. The number of event attendees had also gone up, reaching 200 from 135 last year.

The growth in volume of events is predicted to continue with 64.3 per cent of buyers expecting to organise more events in China in the next 12 months.

On the suppliers' end, 75 per cent agreed with buyers that the volume of events will increase in future and 58 per cent were increasing their promotional budgets.

Sally Greenhill, managing director of The Right Solution Limited, which compiled and independently analysed the report, said: "All indicators point to continued growth from both within China and outbound."
