Beijing aims for RMB500 million worth of tourism development
BEIJING is drumming up investments worth more than RMB500 million (US$73 million) for 30 key tourism sites as part of its strategic development blueprint to become a "world city" by 2015.
Beijing Tourism Administration director-general Zhang Huiguang said at the Beijing Tourism Industry Project 2010 that it would promote more projects and encourage attendees of the 10th Global Travel and Tourism Summit, being held in Beijing from today to May 27, to invest in the Chinese capital.
She said Beijing had "effectively advanced the construction" of 82 projects, involving a gross investment of RMB78 billion, following the first Beijing Tourism Industry Project in 2008.
She added that Beijing welcomed domestic and foreign tourism investors, tourism wholesalers and tourism management agencies to travel or invest in the city.
Last year, the city saw 129 tourism projects being completed or under construction, and an investment of RMB36.4 billion being pumped in.
It attracted 167 million tourists and earned RMB244.21 billion in tourism receipts, representing increases of 14.5 per cent and 10 per cent, respectively.
