Delhi's new terminal to open this weekend
PHASE one of New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) Terminal Three will open on July 3.
All 58 international airlines that currently operate from Terminal 2 will shift to the new terminal on July 4. Domestic airlines will commence operations at the new terminal on July 31.
Terminal 2 will then be used for general aviation while domestic terminal 1A will serve as Haj Terminal after the Commonwealth Games in October.
With an annual passenger throughput of 34 million, the US$2.73 billion terminal will have 168 check-in counters, 24 mobile check-in counters, 98 immigration counters, 78 aerobridges and a 100-room transit hotel.
An eight-lane road and a Metro Raid underground station connect the terminal to the city centre.
IGIA plans to achieve capacity for 60 million passengers per annum in Terminal 3's next two phases.
