More foreign visitors heading to Myanmar
FOREIGN arrivals in Myanmar between January and July shot up by 37 per cent, compared to the same period last year.
Around 110,000 visitors, some 67 per cent of the total figure, were from Asian countries. Thailand ranked as the largest arrival market with 31,795 visitors, followed by China with 19,580 and South Korea with 10,206.
There were 33,953 visitors from Europe, representing a 19 per cent share of the total figure. France topped European arrivals with 7,380 visitors, followed by Germany with 5,678 and Italy with 3,925.
Last year, Myanmar welcomed 227,400 visitor arrivals, a 33 per cent increase over the 170,812 recorded in 2008. (Sources: Rahul Khanna, Yangon, TTGAsia)
